Datil Update (10/07)
We had a recent meting with Helen Cleaveland, the Datil ranch owner, a few weeks ago in order to discuss the current situation of access through the ranch road. She remains generally supportive of continuing to allow access through the ranch but expressed some concerns over the growing number of visitors. Their primary concern is the impact that traffic has on road maintenance and the volume of visitors on popular holiday weekends. At this time the road will remain open with no lock on the gate. We can all do our part to help maintain these good relations by:
- Keep your speed below 15 MPH through the ranch, this minimizes dust and wear and tear on the privately maintained road.
- Do not drive in after dark.
- Carpool to the extent possible and try to bring enough water and supplies for the weekend to minimize traffic through the ranch.
- Sign in at the register and thank the locals for access if you see them.
